Dobson Arena hosted the Special Olympics made possible by an anonymous donation. Funding woes almost cancelled the event when a turn in events made it possible for the athletes to compete!
About 66 athletes from across the state competed in figure skating and speed skating Monday morning at Dobson Ice Arena. Athletes at Copper Mountain also competed in alpine events, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on Sunday and Monday.
These events have been taking place for 22 years. "It is a great time to focus on the tremendous abilities of the athletes instead of focusing on their disabilities," Mindy Watrous, president of the Special Olympics Colorado, said.
I would have to agree!
